There are a lot of things about Spring that makes us all a little giddy.
That first afternoon when you have to drape your jacket over your arm because the warmth from the sun was just so.
The increasing desire to stop for a soft-serve cone.
Thirsty for Margaritas and Negronis.
Trees exploding in full canopies of green.
Birds making an absolute racket in those same trees!
The way the light looks as the dusk approaches.
Not giving a care about how your hair may look when you drive with the window down on your way to work.
This list could go on and on!
We all spill out onto the canvas of our streets and just want to stroll and stroll. Cutting through the Park, down this street, up the next. No urgency.
Chip and I recently visited the Whitney and did exactly that in route down to the restaurant after. Discovering so many things that we did not know about and being reminded of places that we had not passed in a while.
Speaking of the Whitney. It would not even need to showcase Art with the views of the city on display! Seriously looks like an Edward Hopper painting. Mesmerizing.
Art is the word of the moment, seemingly just everywhere. Galleries, Museums, Salons.
I personally am looking forward to Sargent at the Met and the spectacular reopening of The Frick. These moments can just take you away from your troubles and stress…at least for a couple of hours.
What’s cookin’?
Crispy pan fried Dab, the Flounder family, classic remoulade, marinated cabbage, wedge of lemon. Beckoning us to those lazy days of summer. Roadside shacks of clams, lobster and fish in a basket. Verdejo from Spain, Muscadet from France, Rolle from Corsica?? Okay, that is a nice start!
Rabbit from our new friends at NorthWind Farms in Tivoli. Loin wrapped in bacon, pan roasted, confit of thigh, crispy liver, ramp flan! Rossese from the hillsides of Liguria.
Our Coconut Cake refuses to not be center stage…no understudy for that Diva. But Pistachio Paris Brest elbowed it’s way in, pairing so beautifully with 2016 Jurancon Molleux. We do love that area.
We can feel everyone making plans for the escape…from work, from the city, looking towards the mountains and the shore. But, hey, don’t forget to visit. We will be dreaming of your adventures as we continue to create our own escape, each night enjoying the company of friends.
Happy Spring. Take good care of yourself and those around you. It does, indeed, take a Village.
