Spruce Ridge Farms was the farm that just kept giving. So many crazy tomatoes that it seemed as if August was forever. Chip made Malloradus, a shell shaped pasta that represents Sardinia, rolled on a grooved wooden board with your thumb. With that, Sweet 100’s, little round clusters of grapes on a vine, and, oh, they live up to the name.
We paired a skin contact Trebbiano with that dish and also a Viognier from Italy. Bowls were wiped clean with a bit of bread nightly.
And I was treated to tomato jam for my cheese board. Which means that you are treated to tomato jam!
Chip’s version of “Trotter” came back into action with rutabaga and braised greens, pot likker of course.
Cote Roannaise and Alsace Pinot Blanc because I simply could not decide what I liked best. Blaufrankish would also be yummy.
Halibut also got a double dose of pairing. Pan roasted, fresh spinach, Salem potatoes, sauce of fish stock, anise, vin jaune, cream. Matsutake mushrooms. Okay. So, Matsutake mushrooms are unconventional and it took me an hour of tasting to figure that one out! Canadel Bandol Blanc with a composed bite of fish, spinach, sauce…and! Pasubio Vino Amaro, Dolomites, all about pine trees for the bite of Matsutake and potato. Did I mention that the mushrooms are harvested around the roots of pine trees. An AhHa moment.
We enjoyed a collaboration with Chef Mitsu and friends of l’abeille, over on Greenwich, in Tribeca. It was a real treat and made be mindful once again of our fellow professionals and what a wonderful and soulful connection they bring to us.
Roshashana began the trio of New Year Celebrations here in our fair city. Season is upon us. Traffic is absolutely in full force. New York is truly like a bee hive of activity, and music, and shows, and dining dining and more dining. Do not forget to check out ArtBath. Our sweethearts over there at the Blue Building are really bringing it all to the floor. Arts for the sheer joy of live art.
We celebrated our kind of one year Anniversary of being open in October. So many came by to wish us well and raise a glass. We are aware daily that the success we experience is because of you. Your love and support. Your genuine enjoying of the evening. The fact you let me cajole you into trying my sometimes odd and wonderful wine pairings. We hope that we tell you often that we are the lucky ones. To have all of you in our circle. From Carolina Blue in Kitty Hawk, to bonne Soiree in Chapel Hill, then the Simone on the Upper East Side to now our groovy cocoon in Tribeca, Eulalie.
I sign off as always. Eat delicious food, in the company of those you love, with a tasty glass of somethin’ somethin’!!
Take good care of yourselves and those around you.
