September 2025

summer ends

As August bid adieu all of our attentions began to lean into the changes and beginnings that September whispers in our ears…

I can remember how excited that I was always to go back to school. For me, not the chance to shop for clothes, but the chance to buy blank notebooks to fill up and, of course, new pencils!

Reading the books required was also never my problem over the lazy Summer months, but more how many more can I devour.

My Reservation Book is now my clean, lined pages to anticipate your evening with us in the approaching and always delicious High Season in our incredible City. My Calepino pencil sharpened and ready to strike! Ah. Love it.

September also allows us to celebrate the first of a trio of New Years celebrations with our community. Rosh Hashanah. We raised our glasses with many of our guests to welcome a blessed year ahead.

Chip has assembled a bit of a dream team in his kitchen. Not only eager and talented. Gentle of souls and happy in spirit. Truly what every restaurant hopes for.

We took a Sunday drive out to Rockaway and Brighton Beach. For the sole destination of Randazzos! Crispy calamari and shrimp with spicy red sauce washed down with a very cold beer. Soft serve vanilla cone when we returned to Tribeca. A sunset that dreams are made of. A perfect tiny escape.

Spruce Ridge Farm, our friends the Rothschild’s, who we swear must be wizards of some kind, continue to provide our house with glorious stunning produce.
Another banner year for tomatoes that translates to pastas, gazpachos, sauces, salads and tomato jam!
Greens that will become a filling for a new ravioli. Watermelon churned into sorbet. Thumbelina carrots and Peter Wilcox potatoes adorning the Scallop entree. UBE Maina drinks very easy in the glass.

Tiny grapes were eye spied in the walk in, which hints at a pate de fruits in my future. Had an incredible cheese from the Azores, Graciosas, worth a search at your own local fromagerie. A glass of Fernao Pires paired well, also from the same region.

It is now the season to embrace fuller, more voluptuous wines. What a hardship…I will have to sit with my wine peeps and discover new things. Sigh. Well, someone has to! Wanna join me?

Chip thinking about lamb. A new Carolina Shrimp starter. Quail terrine. Fig cake. I will let you know how all of that rolled out and the wines I found to create the best outfit.

Welcome back from your summer joys and travels.
Can’t wait to hear about what you ate and drank, what lifted your spirits.
